8 dischi dei Rolling Stones pubblicati nel formato audio Dolby Atmos

MILANO – ABKCO Music & Records ha pubblicato per la prima volta in assoluto 6 album completi e 2 EP dei Rolling Stones nel formato audio Dolby Atmos®. Questi includono The Rolling Stones EP (1964) dei membri della Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Rolling Stones (UK) (1964), England’s Newest Hit Makers (1964), Five by Five EP (1964), 12 X 5 (1964), The Rolling Stones No. 2 (1965), The Rolling Stones, Now! (1965) e Let It Bleed (1969). Tutti gli otto titoli sono disponibili contemporaneamente su Apple Music, TIDAL e Amazon Music.

Sviluppato da Dolby Laboratories nel 2012, Dolby Atmos® è una tecnologia brevettata che rappresenta un balzo in avanti rispetto al suono surround. Va oltre la normale esperienza di ascolto e mette l’ascoltatore “all’interno” del brano, come se lo immergesse rivelando ogni dettaglio della musica con una chiarezza e una profondità senza pari. Il mixaggio Atmos® per questi titoli è stato un’impresa realizzata al The Hit Factory di New York dal sound engineer Kenta Yonesaka – nominato ai Grammy® – e da John Barrett presso gli Abbey Road Studios di Londra. Tutti i titoli sono stati masterizzati da Adam Grover presso Sterling Sound di Nashville. I titoli dei Rolling Stones fanno parte della campagna in corso di ABKCO per ripubblicare titoli classici su Dolby Atmos®, a partire da diverse uscite di The Animals (The Animals, The Animals on Tour, Animal Tracks, Animalization, The Animals Retrospective), seguite da Sam Cooke (Portrait of a Legend, Keep Movin’ On, Sam Cooke at the Copa, Ain’t That Good News).

Negli anni ’60 era prassi che le uscite di un artista discografico nel Regno Unito e negli Stati Uniti presentassero track list differenti, spesso anche con titoli di album e copertine diverse. E la prima parte del repertortio degli Stones non faceva eccezione. Poco tempo dopo che il gruppo irruppe sulla scena rock and roll, fortemente debitrice del blues americano, Decca (la loro etichetta britannica all’epoca), pubblicò diversi EP ed LP. Dall’altra parte dell’Atlantico, la London Records (l’etichetta statunitense del gruppo), pubblicò l’LP England’s Newest Hit Makers dal titolo ottimistico/profetico e l’LP 12 X 5. Era il 1964. Erano incluse versioni coverizzate di canzoni di Chuck Berry, Rufus Thomas, Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley, The Valentinos e altri. Questi dischi hanno anche offerto uno sguardo sugli autori Jagger-Richards con “Congratulations” e il loro primo successo nella Top 40 degli Stati Uniti “Tell Me (You’re Coming Back)”. All’inizio del 1965, la Decca pubblicò The Rolling Stones No. 2 mentre la London Records pubblicò The Rolling Stones, Now! – quest’ultimo contenente “Heart of Stone”, con il conseguente ingresso della band nella Top 20 della classifica Hot 100 di Billboard.

Verso la fine del decennio, i Rolling Stones erano un nome ormai noto a livello internazionale, ma la formazione originale si stava frammentando. Pubblicato nel 1969 con copertina e tracklist identiche negli Stati Uniti e nel Regno Unito, Let It Bleed rappresenta la fine dell’era di Brian Jones (che suonava l’autoharp in “You Got the Silver” e le percussioni in “Midnight Rambler”) e l’inizio dell’era di Mick Taylor (chitarra slide in “Country Honk”, chitarra in “Live with Me”). La maggior parte dell’acclamato album prodotto da Jimmy Miller, vincitore di un doppio Disco di Platino, è stato registrato da Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman e Charlie Watts, con contributi di musicisti esterni come Ian Stewart, Nicky Hopkins, Ry Cooder, Leon Russell, Jack Nitzsche, Al Kooper, Merry Clayton e Doris Troy, tra gli altri. Let It Bleed inizia e termina rispettivamente con gli evergreen di Jagger e Richards “Gimme Shelter” e “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.

Nei prossimi mesi ABKCO Music & Records continuerà a distribuire titoli dei Rolling Stones in Dolby Atmos®. Tra questi ci saranno Beggars Banquet (1968), Got Live If You Want It! EP (1965), sia la versione statunitense che quella britannica di Out of Our Heads (1965), le versioni statunitense e britannica di Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) (1966) e December’s Children (And Everybody’s) (1965).
