“Pianoinacage”, la tracklist dell’album in piano di Mikado Koko

Dal 16 febbraio l’album che racchiude il lavoro di un artista progressista tra composizioni minimali ed emotive ma dall’elevata tecnica

Artista giapponese avant-garde, poeta e produttrice, Mikado Koko cambia stile con ‘Pianoinacage‘, il disco in arrivo il 16 febbraio via Caliban Sounds / One Little Independent Records, un’opera per piano solo di un artista progressista che ritorna a un suono più tradizionale. “Mi piace l’anarco-punk e la musica d’avanguardia, ma ora sento che la musica per pianoforte è ciò di cui ho bisogno, bella e radicale. Sono profondamente influenzata dalla ribellione di Erik Satie. Le sue composizioni sono più che semplicemente belle” spiega Koko.

Attraverso composizioni minimali ed emotive, e con grande competenza tecnica, Koko estrae melodie nostalgiche che, a loro modo, sfidano lo status quo. Guarda indietro per andare avanti, mentre crea brani sereni che premiano un ascolto meditativo. ‘Pianoinacage’ si muove tra una strumentazione malinconica e contemplativa e tonalità progettate affinché l’ascoltatore possa perdersi. “Abbiamo vissuto in un mondo così difficile negli ultimi anni. Sento che abbiamo bisogno di musica più bella. In questo album compongo e non compongo, suono il piano e non suono il piano. Spero che queste tracce possano aiutare a ritornare a un’infanzia tranquilla”.

“Mikado Koko’s art is that of engagement, storms in a desert, avalanches of reason, dislocation. John Cage created 4’33” of silence, thirty-three seconds beyond a nuclear early warning, time to take a run. Koko steals the balance and creates a fragmented universe, a jigsaw of desire.

Beauty is a machine, the beast is in our interpretation. Notes are laid even; the emotion of chance. There is no there. This is it, right here, now. The affirmative ‘no’. Everything is self-evident, the program is secure. Launch a deterrent and wait. Koko hangs out in the wings dancing a Tai Chi. Green matcha politely sipped during the interval: space incognito.

This is order on the level, a deeper emotion than that of self. The Master is invisible in his ascent of the mountain. Sisyphus rolls an ancient rhyme. The known is subdivided into pitches, some’ll call it music of a kind, some might see it as the waves at turn of tide. Understanding might be a challenge to acceptance. The Samurai knows better. Whoosh.

Koko takes on the challenge of the pandemic, sees it for what it is, the hope of it, the renewal, the seasonal thrust, a rewrite. The potential exists far beyond the known, and some might even say the knowable. The spaces are infinite, but here we are grasping for straws. Koko is a haystack. Get aboard.

Mikado Koko ha iniziato la sua carriera da solista come producer nei club, fondendo elementi della musica tradizionale giapponese con suoni più moderni e sperimentali. Dopo numerose pubblicazioni, remix e compilation, ora si concentra sulla lettura di poesie d’avanguardia e sulla composizione post-genre. Il suo rapporto con Penny Rimbaud inizia con la traccia ‘Asylum’, per il progetto di remix di casa Crass Records, ‘Normal Never Was’. Koko e Rimbaud hanno poi collaborato su un brano per il suo album, ‘Alice in Cryptoland’ e nel singolo ‘The Walrus and the Carpenter’, che include anche Eve Libertine. Nonostante siano a quasi 50 anni e 6.000 miglia di distanza, la collaborazione tra Koko e Rimbaud ha continuato a dare i suoi frutti, compresa la bellissima impresa in ‘Songs To Other Selves’ e in ‘Acts Of Love’ di Rimbaud.
