E’ arrivata il 6 ottobre, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux‘ è la reinterpretazione epicamente ambiziosa , a cura di Roger Waters, di uno degli album più famosi ed acclamati della storia, a cinquant’anni dalla registrazione originale con i Pink Floyd. Registrato quando Waters aveva 29 anni, ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ era una straordinaria meditazione multidimensionale sull’esperienza umana, il passare del tempo, la discesa nella follia e l’abisso.

‘The Dark Side Of The Man Redux’ vede Waters trascendere questo vuoto di mezzo secolo per reinterpretare ed abbellire le sue creazioni originali con una nuova prospettiva raccolta dalla sua esperienza di vita, dalla filosofia e dalla saggezza dell’età, con un’ulteriore enfasi sui temi filosofici, sociali e politici dell’originale.

La straordinaria performance vocale di Waters aggiunge nuovi strati di profondità ai suoi testi classici e saggezza ghiaiosa alle sue nuove creazioni filosofiche. La produzione di Waters e Gus Seyffert spoglia le orchestrazioni psichedeliche dei Pink Floyd in qualcosa di più crudo e delicato, ma non per questo meno sperimentale, inventivo, strutturato e ricco di intertesto musicale.

Oltre a reinventare ciascuna delle dieci tracce originali di ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’, il formato Redux in vinile contiene inoltre una bonus track di tredici minuti ispirata alla ri-registrazione come traccia finale.

“The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition. But Dave, Rick, Nick and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. That’s why I started to consider what the wisdom of an 80 year-old could bring to a reimagined version.
When I first mentioned the idea of re-recording ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ to Gus and Sean we all thought I was mad, but the more we considered it, the more we thought ‘isn’t that the whole point?’. I’m immensely proud of what we have created, a work that can sit proudly alongside the original, hand-in-hand across a half-century of time.

When we recorded the stripped down songs for the Lockdown Sessions, the 50th anniversary of the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon was looming on the horizon. It occurred to to me that The Dark Side Of The Moon could well be a suitable candidate for a similar re-working, partly as a tribute to the original work, but also to re-address the political and emotional message of the whole album. I discussed it with Gus and Sean, and when we’d stopped giggling and shouting ‘You must be ****ing mad’ at one another we decided to take it on. It’s turned out really great and I’m excited for everyone to hear it. It’s not a replacement for the original which, obviously, is irreplaceable. But it is a way for the seventy nine year old man to look back across the intervening fifty years into the eyes of the twenty nine year old and say, to quote a poem of mine about my Father, “We did our best, we kept his trust, our Dad would have been proud of us”. And also it is a way for me to honor a recording that Nick and Rick and Dave and I have every right to be very proud of.” – Roger Waters

‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ ha venduto oltre 45 milioni di copie in tutto il mondo, diventando l’album più venduto negli anni ’70 ed il quarto di tutti i tempi. Certificato 15 volte platino nel Regno Unito e negli Stati Uniti e platino e multi-platino in altri 11 paesi, l’album ha raggiunto la #1 della Billboard Top LPs & Tape, rimanendoci per 981 settimane.
Nel 2012 il disco è stato selezionato per la conservazione nel Registro Nazionale delle Registrazioni degli Stati Uniti dalla Biblioteca del Congresso in quanto ‘culturalmente, storicamento o esteticamente significativo’. Nel 1999 entra nella Grammy Hall of Fame.
